Accessibility

The Grotte des Demoiselles, a unique adventure accessible to everyone.

We all have the right to be able to escape, to vibrate by living a legendary story that we can tell. At the Grotte des Demoiselles, we do our utmost to ensure that all audiences can have access to the prodigious adventure. This page allows you to organize your visit as well as possible. It contains information on the facilities and services offered to visitors with disabilities and / or with specific needs.

Good to know before your visit

  • The visit is guided: it lasts about 1h15 and takes place in eight stops (punctuated by personalized explanations from the guide), on a route of nearly 1 km on foot, with 550 steps to go up and down in a dark, often humid, natural environment that can be slippery. The guide could possibly adapt your route if you feel the need.

  • The constant temperature in the Cave is 15 ° C. It will cool you in summer when the outside temperatures are scorching, and will warm you in winter by a natural air conditioning effect. We recommend that you bring warm clothing and shoes suitable for a visit in a humid environment.

  • The site is not accessible with a stroller. You can easily take the tour with your toddler by bringing your baby carrier. A baby carrier rental (max 13 kg) is possibly possible on site depending on availability.

  • Before starting their visit, we advise people with reduced mobility and pregnant women to contact reception staff to assess their physical conditions.

  • The Funicular removes 300 steps to access the heart of the cave.

  • Overall, the cave walk is fairly easy , even for children.

  • There may be a wait at the ticket office , especially in July and August. Online booking offers (in addition to the choice of date and time) a "skip-the-line" service giving priority access to the funicular.

  • Toilets for adults, children and changing table are available in the reception pavilion and in the departure station of the funicular.

  • Pregnant women, people with reduced mobility and people with disability cards can go directly to the rock shelter to sit on the chairs provided for this purpose, and wait for their companions to climb into the funicular.

Accessibility for people with disabilities and reduced mobility

  • We have parking spaces adapted for disabled people in the immediate vicinity of the entrance to the Reception Pavilion (signposted path). The parking areas are unguarded.

  • Several areas around the Demoiselles cave are fully accessible via a tarmac path : the reception pavilion, the brasserie and its panoramic terrace, the shop, the Mediterranean garden.

  • All toilets are accessible.

  • For safety reasons, all visitors with reduced mobility or visual impairment (blind), cognitive impairment, psychic impairment, behavioral disorder, autism or mental impairment must be accompanied by at least one able-bodied person aged 15 and over who is able to help them.

  • The blind or visually impaired must be accompanied in the cave, due to the dark natural environment, often humid, which can be slippery. Guide and service dogs are welcome on site.

  • We welcome with special attention visitors who are mentally, cognitively, psychologically or with autism in the tours, so that they can experience an extraordinary underground adventure.

  • The topography of the cave does not allow accessibility of the visit route for people with severe motor disabilities, nor access by electric wheelchair.

  • For a manual wheelchair and people with reduced mobility , access to the main room is still possible (by reservation).
